Apple QuickTime File Handling Multiple Code Execution Vulnerabilities

Last Update Date: 28 Jan 2011 Release Date: 1 Apr 2010 4984 Views

RISK: Medium Risk

Multiple vulnerabilitieshave been identified in Apple QuickTime, which could be exploited by remote attackers to take complete control of an affected system. These issues are caused by memory corruptions, and integer and heap overflow errors when processing malformed PICT, QDM2, QDMC, H.263, H.261, H.264, RLE, M-JPEG, Sorenson, FlashPix, FLC, MPEG, or BMP files, which could allow attackers to crash an affected application or execute arbitrary code e.g. by tricking a user into visiting a specially crafted web page.

1. Due to an error in the processing of QDM2 encoded audio content can be exploited to trigger a memory corruption.

2. Due to an error in the processing of QDMC encoded audio content can be exploited to trigger a memory corruption.

3. Due to an error in the processing of H.263 encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

4. Due to an error in the processing of H.261 encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

5. Due to an error when handling PICT images can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

6. Due to an error in the processing of H.264 encoded movie files can be exploited to trigger a memory corruption.

7. Due to an error in the processing of RLE encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

8. Due to an error in the processing of M-JPEG encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

9. Due to an error in the processing of Sorenson encoded movie files can be exploited to trigger a memory corruption.

10. Due to an integer overflow error in the processing of FlashPix encoded movie files can be exploited to corrupt memory.

11. Due to an error in the processing of FLC encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

12. Due to an error in the processing of MPEG encoded movie files can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

13. Due to an integer overflow error in the processing of PICT images can be exploited to cause a memory corruption.

14. Due to an error when handling color tables included in movie files can be exploited to corrupt memory.

15. Due to an error in the processing of PICT images can be exploited to cause a heap-based buffer overflow.

16. Due to an error in the processing of BMP images can be exploited to trigger a memory corruption.
