Release Date: 10 Sep 2024 589 Views

In response to the China Cybersecurity Awareness Week and to enhance public understanding of cybersecurity, the Hong Kong Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Centre (HKCERT), the Digital Policy Office (DPO), and the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) officially launched the "2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Campaign" today. The cybersecurity exhibition runs from today until 15 September, at D·PARK in Tsuen Wan, with the 2024 Cybersecurity Awareness Week Fun Day taking place today (7 September). HKCERT has collaborated with renowned local illustrator DDED to create the brand new mascot (「網安小 C 虎」). The Fun Day features interactive game booths, offering a novel way to disseminate cybersecurity knowledge to the public.

Professor Dong SUN Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry; Mr Tony WONG, Commissioner for the Digital Policy Office; Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC; Ir Alex Chan, General Manager of the Digital Transformation Division of HKPC and spokesperson for HKCERT; Mr Otto LEE, Head of HKCERT; and Mr Raymond LAM, Chief Superintendent of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau at the Hong Kong Police Force attended the opening ceremony and toured the game booths.

HKCERT has partnered with popular local illustrator DDED to create a new mascot this year. The character draws inspiration from the tiger, known as the king of beasts, and embodies superhero qualities that symbolise strength, courage, and wisdom. The mascot is designed to carry out the important mission of safeguarding Hong Kong's cybersecurity. Dressed in superhero attire, the mascot wields a special shield to defend against various cyber attacks. The shield's color scheme cleverly incorporates the high-risk tones used in HKCERT's security bulletins, emphasising the critical importance of cybersecurity.

Professor Dong SUN, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, said“Safeguarding cybersecurity is a long-term task that requires city-wide participation. We hope that through this series of activities of the cybersecurity week, we will not only enhance public awareness on this front, but also create a more secure and efficient cyberspace, for safeguarding the cybersecurity of our country and Hong Kong."

Mr Mohamed BUTT, Executive Director of HKPC, stated that HKPC supports the policies of the HKSAR Government and places great importance on the development of innovation and technology (I&T), while actively nurturing local talent and increasing investment in innovation. HKPC has been committed to advancing local I&T development, encouraging youngsters to seize current opportunities to explore their aspirations, plan their careers, and consider joining the I&T sector. Additionally, he announced that HKCERT will host its annual flagship event, the Capture the Flag (CTF) Challenge 2024, in November, urging young talent to participate actively.

The event aims to promote cybersecurity awareness through interactive games and display boards, contributing to building a more secure cyberspace in Hong Kong. Six lively scenarios featuring DDED's family characters demonstrate potential cyber traps encountered in daily life. Visitors can participate in prize-winning games at various booths, collect stamps, and redeem exclusive DDED x HKCERT gifts, reinforcing the cybersecurity knowledge imparted during the event. Coinciding with the opening ceremony, the "Together, We Create a Safe Cyberworld" Seminar and the Tram Body Design Contest Award Ceremony were also held today. Winning designs from the contest, along with information on preventing cyber attacks, will be featured on tram bodies and tram stop billboards from today until 29 September, offering important cybersecurity information to the public.
