Beware of payment online using credit card

HKCERT noticed that there were reports from credit card users that unauthorized credit card transactions emerged after they used their credit card online on a particular website.

HKCERT reminds credit card users be careful when performing online transactions and beware of the followings:
1.    Make sure the correctness of the URL of the connected website. Do not click on hyperlinks from emails to avoid falling into traps of phishing emails.
2.    Make sure the connection of the web browser is using “HTTPS” and the browser behaved normally without warnings or errors. Avoid using public Wifi to perform online transaction.
3.    Use second authentication services provided by card schemes, like Verified by Visa or MasterCard SecureCode.
4.    Pay attention to SMS transaction alerts from bank. Contact the bank immediately if there are unknown transactions.
5.    Set online transaction limit.
6.    Do not save credit card information online, e.g. online shopping platform.
