Microsoft has announced the end of support (EOS) date of Windows Vista on 11 April 2017. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide support and security patch for Windows Vista. To be secure, users should upgrade the Windows operating system or migrate to other operating systems with support as soon as possible.¹

 

"The system still works as usual and thus there is no need to upgrade or switch to other operating systems."

"We believe that antivirus software is sufficient to combat the security risks."

"We do not have resources or expertise required to upgrade or migrate to other operating systems."

 

But this brings security risks to users.

 

If users still require Windows Vista in the immediate future, they should understand what the risks that this action entails and employ necessary precautions to minimize the risks, for example, disconnecting Windows Vista from the Internet.

 

According to history, hackers often attempt to exploit known vulnerabilities. If security patching is discontinued, the probability of being attacked is higher. Furthermore, ransomware victims may have a correlation with the usage of unsupported operating systems.²

 

To secure your computer, HKCERT urge users of Windows Vista to upgrade the Windows system or migrate to other operating systems with support as soon as possible.
